Ownership and History |
Taub's Pharmacy was located on Annadale Road in Annadale, Staten Island. The owner, Saul Taub, came to the U.S. from Russia around 1913, living first in Manhattan and later moving to Staten Island. He lived on Annadale Road with his wife Rae and their sons Jessie and Ira. The donor of this bag, Mrs. Edward Fingerhut, recalled that Taub's Pharmacy had a soda fountain and a post office substation, and was known by the locals as "Tauby's." She beiieves that the store may have opened in the late 1920s. When Mr. Taub died in 1960, his nephew Ephraim (Ed) Fingerhut took over and changed the name to Annadale Pharmacy. Mr. Fingerhut retired ca. 1993. As of 2014, the Annadale Pharmacy is still in business, now located at 831 Annadale Road. |
