Description |
Program for the 1895 Richmond County Fair in Staten Island. The cover of the program has printed inscriptions in black and pink: "First Annual / Richmond / County / Fair / and / Horse / Show / September / 2d, 3d, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, / 1895. / Price Ten Cents." The pages of the program include a description of Staten Island; a list of Richmond County Officers, 1895; histories of the S.R. Smith Infirmary, the Staten Island Hospital, and Sailors Snug Harbor; listings of the Fair Committees, exhibits, entries, and departments; "Daily Programme of Events;" and advertisements for numerous Staten Island and Manhattan businesses. The back cover has a full-page advertisement for Staten Island, "The Greatest of All Summer Resorts!" The page headed "BICYCLE RACES" has handwritten pencil notations in Alice Austen's handwriting, noting winners and times of the various races. Printed at the bottom of the last page: "This Programme / Was Printed at the office of the / RICHMOND COUNTY STANDARD, / 124 Jersey St., New Brighton." (Keywords: New York) |
