Description |
Greeting card. Color-printed illustration of four flowers (pansies), each overlaid with an embossed letter in gold to spell "XMAS". Printed inscription: "WITH / BEST WISHES / Joy that peace imparts - / Love that gladdens hearts - / hopes that aye abide, - / Bless your Christmastide." / H.M.B." The card is printed on rectangular card stock with projecting shapes on the upper and right edges corresponding to the outer edges of the flower petals. Reverse side has handwritten inscription, "Wishing you a Merry Christmas / Grace." Reverse also has printed trademark for "RT&S / ARTISTIC SERIES" and maker information in fine print, "RAPHAEL TUCK & SONS. LONDON, PARIS, NEW YORK / DESIGNED AT THE STUDIOS IN ENGLAND AND PRINTED BY THE "RAFOLITH" PROCESS AT THE FINE ART WORKS IN SAXONY. / COPYRIGHT." (Keywords: Floral, Holiday) |

This card is part of a collection of personal items that came to the Staten Island Historical Society from photographer Alice Austen in 1945. The "Grace" who signed the card may be Alice Austen's friend Grace Hustace Simonson. The Simonson family lived on Staten Island until 1881, when they moved to Harlem. |
