This trophy was awarded to Joseph P. Thompson (born ca. 1875) by the Clifton Boat Club, where he was a rower and swimmer. Mr. Thompson, a long-time resident of Stapleton, Staten Island, served in the military during the Spanish-American War. In the 1920s and 1930s his occupation was general contractor. He was also a volunteer firefighter with Staten Island's Edgewater Fire Department, and later served as president of the Southern New York Veteran Firemen's Association. |
