Description |
Fireman's badge from Cromwell Engine Company of Dongan Hills, Staten Island. The badge is silver-colored metal in the shape of a Maltese cross. The circular central medallion has raised number "14;" the upper and lower portions of the cross are inscribed "CROMWELL / ENGINE CO." The left and right portions of the cross have raised images of a hydrant and a crossed hook and ladder. The reverse side of the badge has a pin fastener. Stamped maker's mark on the reverse: "C.D. This badge belonged to John W. Else (1877-1957) of Dongan Hills. He served as second assistant chief of the Cromwell Engine Company from 1903 to 1905 and as first assistant foreman from 1905 to 1906. |
