Printed announcement on a folded piece of paper printed with green ink. Inscription: "HARBOUR HILL GOLF CLUB. / SPECIAL NOTICE. / July 1st, 1898. / The new Club House will be formally opened on Saturday, July / 9th, when will be played the return match v's the Powelton Club of / Newburgh, N.Y., and from that time on play will begin at the new / 1st tee (now the 13th). Lockers may be had upon application to the / Treasurer and upon payment in advance of $2 per annum for active / and $1 per annum for associate members. / Arrangements have been made by which members of the Golf / Club, both active and associate, may obtain luncheon or dinner at the / Brighton Heights Inn, Mrs. Sheffield, Proprietress, situated opposite / the new Club House on the other side of Castleton Avenue. / Table d'Hote Lunch -- 50 c / Table d'Hote Dinner -- 75 c / Exclusive of Wines, etc. / Members wishing to lunch or dine at the Inn will please leave / word beforehand with the care-taker at the Club House, where orders / may also be left for Special Meals. / The Brighton Heights Inn has furnished rooms to let by the / week or month, and accommodation may be had by out-of-town mem- / bers wishing to remain overnight on the Island. / By order Governing Committee. / Malcolm Graham, Jr.,, Secy." The establishment of the Harbour Hill Golf Club was reported in the Richmond County Advance on May 9, 1896: "Golf Club. A new club known as the Harbor Hill Golf Club has been organized with the following officers: P.F. Kobbe, pres't; H.G. Van Vechten, treas.; E.D. Crowell, sec'y; H.M. Alexander, Jr., J.W. Bird, E.D. Crowell, M. Graham, Jr., P.R. King, P.F. Kobbe, S.H. Rich, A.P. Ripley, and H.G. Van Vechten, board of governors." |
