Ownership and History |
William A. Morgan (1872-1952), a carpenter and maritime worker, made models of buildings and ships as a hobby as well as being a volunteer firefighter. He lived at 1029 Rockland Avenue in New Springville, Staten Island. Mr. Morgan gave this certificate to the Staten Island Historical Society in 1943. Oceanic Hook & Ladder Company No. 1 of Travis, Staten Island was established in 1881. (At that time, the town was known as Linoleumville, home of the first linoleum factory in America.) Oceanic Hook & Ladder still occupies its historic fire station at 4010 Victory Boulevard. It is one of two remaining volunteer fire companies on Staten Island as of 2016. |
