Ownership and History |
Staten Island resident John C. Thompson (1807-1872) served as a local public official and political leader. He was also an experimental gardener, and he published this booklet on practical urban gardening just a short time before his death. His gardening technique was noted in the "Farm, Garden and Household" column in The Star and Enterprise newspaper (Newville,, PA) on April 15, 1873: "For Potato Planters. The late John C. Thompson of Staten Island was always signally successful in getting a large yield of full-grown potatoes two to three weeks earlier than his neighbors, on the same character of soil..." |
