Original B&W print on a dark gray cardboard mount. View of the firehouse of Great Kills Engine No. 1 and Great Kills Hook & Ladder Company No. 1, in Great Kills, Staten Island. A group of 14 firefighters in uniform stand alongside a horse-drawn ladder wagon in front of the two-story firehouse, which has large central double doors with a smaller door on each side. Above each of the smaller doors is a window with an inscription. Inscription over the door at left: "GREAT KILLS / ENGINE / NO. 1." Inscription over the door at right: "GREAT KILLS / HOOK & LADDER / CO. NO. 1." A fire bell tower is at far right, behind the firehouse. Another building is partially visible at left, with painted sign "B. C. REITZ, / CONFECTIONERY, TOBACCO & CIGARS." There is a stamped inscription on the reverse of the mount: "C. D. GRIFFITH, / WEST NEW BRIGHTON. / STATEN ISLAND." (Keywords: New York City, Early Twentieth Century) |
