Modern B&W copy photo. View of a man seated in an early airplane at the Wittemann airplane manufacturing company of Staten Island. The plane has fabric wings, an open body constructed of metal bars, and 3 wheels; the man has his feet on pedals or footrests and his hands on a steering wheel. There are two buildings at left. The plane is on a lawn with trees behind it. Typed inscription on the reverse of the photo: "A 1908 airplane ready for test, showing one end of the estate barn in background. At this end of the / barn there were 4 stalls for horses and 2 stalls for cows. / C. & A. Wittemann, Aeronautical Engineers, 17-19 Ocean Terrace and Little Clove Road, Staten Island, N.Y."
