Description |
Original glass plate negative. Portrait of Alice Austen seated in an ornate upholstered chair on the porch of Clear Comfort, the Austen family home in Rosebank, Staten Island. She holds a bouquet of roses in her lap. There is a throw rug at her feet, and next to her is a pedestal holding a potted palm in a vase. The porch is surrounded by plants and vines. The original negative sleeve has the photographer's handwritten inscription: "Seed 23 / Full length, with bouquet / (EAA) / Fine day, in shade on piazza / 3.[4?]5 p.m / P.L. / Stop 32 / 3 secs / Monday Sept 19th 1892."
