Description |
Original B&W print on a gray cardboard mount. View of what is apparently a dried-up pond; it's a muddy area with a small stream in the center. There are three houses at right, and two smokestacks in the distance at left. Several people, possibly a group of boys, walk on what appears to be a dam in the middle distance. There are handwritten inscriptions on the reverse of the mount, in three different handwritings: "Mill Pond, nr. Clove Rd."; "Palmer's Mill"; and "10 AM / Looking south from half way between Jewett Ave / and Clove Road on Richmond Terrace about / 1896 - Staten Island Waterworks smoke / stacks, left rear." Stamped inscription on the reverse: "H.A. BILES, PHOTOS, / Cor. Jewett Ave., Richmond Terrace, / PORT RICHMOND, S.I. / JULY [1?] 1905." An inscription on a copy print notes that Palmer's Mill was also known as Bodine's Mill. (Keywords: New York City, Early Twentieth Century) |
