Original glass plate negative. View of New York Bay, as seen from the grounds of Clear Comfort, the Austen family home in Rosebank, Staten Island. Ships are visible in the distance. Violet Ward and Trude Eccleston (with their backs to the camera) are seated on a rustic bench that surrounds a large tree in the center of the image. An American flag is displayed on the branches of the tree. Next to the tree are a bench, a rocking chair, and a table that holds a pitcher, two bottles, and a telescope. At right is a tripod for a camera. The original negative sleeve has the photographer's handwritten inscription: "Stanley / 35 /437 / Violet Ward & Trude on Terrace / Naval parade / Fine, hazy day / W.L. / 1 P.M / 60 ft Inst / Tuesday Oct 11th / 1892."
