Description |
Original glass plate negative. Three young bootblacks stand on Broadway in lower Manhattan. The two boys at right look toward the camera; they both hold shoeshine kits, and the boy at right is also holding a whisk broom. The boy at left looks toward the left edge of the image. Signs on the buildings behind them include Astor House, Stern & Son Shoe Store, and Ehrlich Oculists and Opticians. The original negative sleeve has the photographer's handwritten inscription: "Cramer / C / 898 / Three bootblacks / Fair sun out hot / South side of N.Y. Post Office / W.L. 12.35 P.M / 12 ft Inst. fast / Monday April 13th / 1896 / N.Y." (Keywords: New York City) |
