Original B&W print on a brown cardboard mount with gold edges. Alice Austen poses with her Aunt Minn and Uncle Oswald on the lawn of Clear Comfort, the Austen family home in Rosebank, Staten Island. Alice is seated in a chair in the center, looking toward the right. Aunt Minn and Uncle Oswald stand on either side of her, looking directly toward the camera. Aunt Minn holds a parasol. Oswald holds in his right hand a pneumatic bulb to operate the remote shutter cable release for the camera. There are trees and shrubbery in the background. (Keywords: Self Portrait, New York) |

Photographer Alice Austen's Aunt Minn married Oswald Muller, a clipper ship captain from Copenhagen, in 1871. Minn frequently joined him in his travels; when not at sea, they resided at the Austen family home, Clear Comfort, in Rosebank, Staten Island. |
