Original glass plate negative. A policeman, seen in profile (facing to the right side of the image) stands on a cobblestone street at 5th Avenue and 14th Street in Manhattan. Across the street is a store with signs "FINE PARIS GLOVES" and "GLOVES / CHEAPEST / OF ALL." There are pedestrians on the sidewalk across the street. A street sign for 5th Avenue is on the corner. The original negative sleeve has the photographer's handwritten inscription: "925 / Cramer / c / Policeman 5th Ave / & 14th S[t] / Fine day in shade / W.L. / 11 am 12 ft / Inst quick / Sat June 13th / 1896 / NY."
