B&W print made from original negative. View of a railroad crossing, with the former Annadale Railroad Station in the middle distance near the center. A ramp beside the train tracks leads to a building at far right, probably the train station constructed as a replacement. On the near side of the tracks, two women and a boy are seen walking with a baby in a baby carriage. Utility poles at the center have signs: "RAILROA[D] CROSSING / DA[NG]ER." and "POLICE / TELEPHONE". Shops on the far side of the tracks have numerous signs; at left: "VENIDA / [illegible] / ANNADALE / DEPARTMENT / STORE / VENIDA / [illegible]"; second from left: "ATLANTIC & PACIFIC"; third building from left: "REAL / ESTA[TE] / OFFI[CE]" with sign beside it: "ATTRACTIVE LOTS. / TITLES GUARANTEED / REASONABLE TERMS / JAMES W. H[U]GHES CORP. / 26 LIBER[TY] ST., N.Y." The building at right has a name on the awning: "CENTRAL / MARKET"; advertising signs on the side of the building have inscriptions: "NATIONAL ZWIEBACK" and "Gold Cross / Milk". This photograph shows an area near the Annadale Road railroad crossing in Annadale, Staten Island. It includes a structure which was moved to Historic Richmond Town in 1975 and called the Annadale Railroad Station. That building, seen in the middle distance of this photograph, was not being used as a station when the photograph was taken in the 1920s. It had reportedly been moved a short distance from its original location to become a portion of a residence used by the DeGroff family until the 1950s. |
