Original B&W print on a black cardboard mount. Group portrait of members of Wyandotte Hook & Ladder Company No. 5 standing in front of their two-story brick firehouse on Broadway in West New Brighton, Staten Island. Most of the men are wearing firefighters' uniforms; a few are wearing civilian clothing with badges. Other men and boys in civilian clothes can be seen at left and right, and in the windows of the firehouse. The facade of the firehouse has two large terra cotta ornaments, one depicting a man's head and one depicting a buffalo head, and inscription "WYANDOTTE." There is a stamped inscription on the reverse of the mount: "H. A. BILES, PHOTOS, / Cor. Jewett Ave., & Richmond Terrace, / PORT RICHMOND, S. I." Ownership and History |
After this building burned in the early 1900s, the two terra cotta ornaments were rescued by firefighter William Fink, who later donated them to Staten Island Historical Society. |
