Original glass plate negative. Interior view of a room with a staircase at right. The room is furnished with a desk, two rocking chairs, a lamp, and various decorative accessories. Also visible are a floor rug, wallpaper, and French doors with sheer curtains. The original negative sleeve has the photographer's handwritten inscription: "Seed 26 / 373 / Hall in Julie Lord's house / Clear day, light fair. / 11.05 a.m / Stop 44 / 10 min. / Perken lense / Wednesday Oct 16th 1889." Ownership and History |
Julia Marsh was a friend of the photographer Alice Austen, and she appears in a number of Austen photographs. In 1888 Julia married George Osgood Lord, and they resided on Wandel Avenue in Clifton, Staten Island, for many years before moving to Millburn, New Jersey around 1920. |
