Description |
Original glass plate negative. View of the Martin family in Bennington, Vermont. Julia Martin (wearing a striped dress) stands alongside a two-wheeled horse-drawn carriage. Her father, I. Kingsley Martin, and her stepmother, Sarah (Schuyler) Martin, are seated in the carriage. The young boy seated in the carriage with them is most likely their son, Schuyler Martin, who was born in 1884. They are on an unpaved road with fields in the background and mountains in the distance. One house is visible in the center distance. The photographer's initials are inscribed in the lower left corner of the negative: "E.A.A." The original negative sleeve has the photographer's handwritten inscription: "A&R / 40 / 49 / Horses Mr & Mrs M. Miss Walsh / Fine day. / 25 ft 4.40 PM / D / Sat. Aug 9th 1890 / Bennington." |
