Original glass plate negative. Two bootblacks sit at a shoeshine stand on 4th Avenue in Manhattan. There is a sign on the stand: "FIRST CLASS SHINE / 5 c / OIL SHINE 10 c / PAT. LEATHER / [ ] ELLOW SHOES." The building behind them has an awning with inscription "EYE GLASSES." The original negative sleeve has the photographer's handwritten inscription: "Stanley / 35 / 692 / Shoe blacks & stand 4th Ave / Cloudy / D. 2.35 PM / 40 ft Inst / Monday March 5th / 1894 / N.Y. / Set."
