Original glass plate negative. Peter T. Austen (standing at right), uncle of photographer Alice Austen, poses on a lawn with a man and a woman identified in an inscription as Mr. and Mrs. Voorhees. Mrs. Voorhees is seated in a chair, and the men stand behind her. The men wear three-piece suits and pocket watches. Mrs. Voorhees wears a dark color dress and a floral hat. The Voorhees are Mr. and Mrs. Willard P. Voorhees, who lived across the street from Peter T. Austen in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Willard P. Voorhees was a lawyer and later served as a Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court. |
