Ownership and History |
Trude Eccleston, a close friend of photographer Alice Austen, is seated in the gazebo with her future husband, Charles Barton. Trude and Charles married in 1900. This photo provides a sweeping view of the area around Lake Mohonk, New York, a popular resort area. The Eccleston family's vacation to the area was reported in the "Personal Notes" column of the Richmond County Advance newspaper on August 8, 1896: "Rev. Dr. and Mrs. J.C. Eccleston and family are spending the month of August at 'Mountain Rest,' near Lake Mohonk." |
