This photograph was published in the book "Alice's World" by Ann Novotny in 1976. The photo was captioned "Two respectable residents of Bennington, Vermont, egged on by Alice and Julia Martin, expose a shocking amount of black-stockinged ankle, calf and knee. 'She was a devil of a girl, if ever there was one,' old Miss Austen chuckled when she remembered Mrs. Snively. 'Oh, she was a corker!' " |
