Description |
Original B&W print on brown cardboard mount with darker brown printed borders. Interior view of the Terrace Pharmacy on Richmond Terrace in Mariners Harbor, Staten Island. George Washington DeHart stands in the center of the image. There are counters and glass cases at left and right, with shelves and drawers along the walls at far left and right. Cabinets with glass doors can be seen along the rear wall, with two mirrors at center. The camera is visible reflected in the left-hand mirror; Mr. DeHart holds a device attached to a cord or wire, possibly to allow him to take the photograph himself. Various products are on display, including glass jars of chemicals, boxes of cigars, and brushes; advertisements for Coca-Cola and Euthymol shaving soap can also be seen. Handwritten inscription on the reverse of the mount: "GW DeHart / 2922 Richmond Terrace" with addition in another handwriting: "COR HARBOR RD / DE HART DRUG STORE." Ownership and History |
George Washington DeHart, a lifelong resident of Staten Island, was born in 1876. He received his license to practice pharmacy in 1904, and opened the Terrace Pharmacy the following year. |
