Original glass plate negative. View of an outdoor market on Hester Street on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, with buildings in the background. In the center of the image, two women stand next to wooden crates filled with eggs. At left a man (with his back to the camera) works at a grinding wheel, perhaps sharpening knives. Behind the women are a wagon filled with produce, and a horse-drawn carriage. The original negative sleeve has the photographer's handwritten inscription: "823 / Cramer / C / Egg stand group / Fine day bright / W.L. / 10.05 AM / Inst fast / Thursday April 18th 1895 / Hester Street."
