Original B&W print on off-white cardboard mount, cabinet card format. Bust portrait of John J. Vaughn Jr., seen in 3/4 view. He is wearing a suit jacket and has a star-shaped badge on his lapel. Printed inscription on the reverse of the mount: "FROM THE / PHOTOGRAPHIC / STUDIO / OF / J.R. POTTER / ART / PHOTOGRAPHER / 323. Main Str. / BUFFALO, N.Y." Handwritten inscription on the reverse: "Sheriff Vaughn." (Keywords: New York) |

Ownership and History |
John J. Vaughn Jr. (1848-1908) served as Sheriff of Richmond County from 1886 to 1889. He had previously served as Deputy Sheriff of Richmond County and Superintendent of the Poor of the town of Westfield. At the time of his death, he was serving as Sergeant-at-Arms for the Board of Aldermen. |
