Description |
Original B&W print on a cardboard mount. Group portrait of sixteen members of Medora Hook & Ladder Company No. 3 of New Brighton, Staten Island. The men are posed outdoors alongside their ladder wagon. All of the men wear firefighters' helmets. Most wear uniform shirts with the company's emblem on the front, and some wear badges. A large dog lies at the feet of the firefighters at right. There is a handwritten number on the photo beneath each of the men, beginning at left; corresponding inscriptions in the lower margin of the mount identify some of the men. The fifth man from left is Edgar Hicks; the seventh is identified as "Morton"; the ninth is E.H. Seehusen; the tenth is J. Ward; and the fifteenth is Charles G. Dale, the donor's father. The dog is identified as "mastiff - 'Jesse'." There is a stamped inscription on the reverse of the mount: "Richmond County Camera Co. / LEW. MORRIS, PROP., WEST N. BRIGHTON, S. I.". A handwritten inscription on the reverse of the mount notes that the photo was taken before July 1891, when the mastiff Jesse died. (Keywords: New York, NSFD, North Shore Fire Department) |
