View of an open field with a large tent at right; a crowd of people (mostly men, with a few women and children) stand or sit with their backs to the camera. All of the men wear suits and hats. In the center of the image is a man standing at a podium; he appears to be reading from a paper. In the distance is a row of trees in bloom. Ownership and History |
Horatio J. Sharrett (1870-1946) was a real estate and insurance agent with an office on Richmond Avenue in Port Richmond, Staten Island. A brief article in the New York Times of March 8, 1908, described another of Mr. Sharrett's auctions of property in the same Port Richmond neighborhood: "H.J. Sharrett will sell at auction on Saturday, March 21, in Masonic Hall, Port Richmond, several Staten Island properties. Among the parcels to be offered are thirty lots at Decker Heights, on Decker and Lexington Avenues and Catharine Street..." |
