Alice Austen stands in the center, and Gertrude Tate is seated at right; they appear to be wearing matching sweaters and hats. Gertrude has a camera in her lap. The woman seated next to Gertrude holds a book in her hand, and the boy has his arm around the woman's shoulder. Other people are visible on the deck, including two men in uniform.
