Original B&W print on black cardboard mount. View of the Staten Island Athletic Club boathouse, seen from the water. Two story building with attic and circular cupola with a flagpole with large American flag mounted on roof; it stands on a wooden pier built over the water. The second floor has a wide porch with decorative wooden railings and circular extensions at the corners and side. A crowd of men and women are standing on the porch, which has decorations hung from the edge of the roof, and signal flags hung from the railing. Two groups of men stand on the pier outside the building; a number of others are in a group of small boats in the water to the left of the boathouse. A small building can be seen at far left; two automobiles can be seen on shore at right. Stamped inscription on reverse: "H. A. BILES, PHOTOS, / Cor. Jewett Ave., & Richmond Terrace, / PORT RICHMOND, S. I." (Keywords: New York) |

Ownership and History |
This photo shows the second boathouse of the Staten Island Athletic Club. The first boathouse was destroyed by two passing tugboats in 1886, and the new boathouse opened the following year. |
