Original glass plate negative. Alice Austen and friends pose on the grounds of Clear Comfort, the Austen family home in Rosebank, Staten Island; a small section of the porch is visible at right. Trude Eccleston is seated in a chair, and Alice Austen stands behind her. A woman identified in the inscription as Carrie Post kneels on the ground, leaning her elbow on the arm of the chair. Both Trude and Carrie hold umbrellas, and all three women hold drinking glasses. Identified in the negative sleeve inscription as "Self, Trude, and Carrie Post." (Keywords: Self Portrait, New York) |
