Ownership and History |
The fire was reported in the New York Times on November 8, 1909: "Residents of West New Brighton, S.I., flocked to Richmond Terrace and Dongan Street yesterday afternoon to watch the spectacle presented by Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church, as flames which started on the first floor of the two-and-a-half-story structure of brick, ate their way through the roof, climbed the twenty-five-foot tower above, and finally sent it crashing into the building. A score of firemen, who had dragged a line of hose into the burning structure were almost crushed by the shower of brick. Before the blaze was put out the church had been destroyed, and the $10,000 organ damaged, probably beyond repair..." |
