This is an individual item contained within archival collection MS126.000, Butts Family Papers. Tintype portrait, partially hand colored, in white paper frame with red printed border and purple paper cover. Half-length portrait of a man with a mustache; he wears a dark suit with a velvet collar over a white shirt with striped bowtie. He is balding with wavy hair; his cheeks are tinted pink. Handwritten inscription on paper cover: "Alonzo Butts." |
Biography and History |
Alonzo Butts (1840-1912), a seaman and oysterman, lived for many years at 219 Union Avenue in Mariners Harbor, Staten Island. He married Mary Catherine Haughwout in 1870, and they had two children, Emma and Ernest. |
