Biography and History |
In the 1920s and 1930s, George C. Anderson 1st, his wife Violet, and their sons Edward, George 2nd, and Arthur lived in this house in the Lighthouse Hill neighborhood of Staten Island. Arthur became a noted radio and stage actor. In a reminiscence written in 1999, he described the family's home: "I lived with my father, mother and two brothers in a stone house, the last one on Edinboro Road before the Latourette Golf Course, on what was then called Richmond Hill...Between our house, at the corner of Warwick Avenue (now Rigby), and the golf course were only hay fields, weeds and thickets...On the half-mile length of Edinboro Road from its east end at Meisner Avenue there were then only ten houses, built at irregular intervals and separated by woods..." The artist William Hurd Lawrence lived nearby in the 1930s, and George C. Anderson 2nd married the artist's daughter, Dorothy, around 1963. |
