This is an individual item contained within archival collection MS136. Handwritten medical license on off-white paper. Inscription on the front: "Richmond County [illegible, possibly ss. or Js.], - I, George Barnes one of the Judges of the / Court of Common Pleas, in and for the County of Richmond, / in pursuance of the direction of an Act of the Legislature / of the State of New York, Entitled an Act to regulate / the practice of Physic and Surgery in this State -- / passed the 23rd day of March 1797 -- DO -- hereby Certify / that Doctor Richard Channing Moore -- hath produ / -ced, to me, Satisfactory Evidence, that he hath -- / practised Physic and Surgery, as a regular pract / -itioner, for upwards of two years, before the first / day of October, one thousand Seven Hundred / and Ninety-Seven / Given under my hand & Seal this Twen / -ty-fifth day of July 1806 / George Barnes." A small piece of paper is adhered over a wax seal. The paper was originally folded for storage, with a handwritten inscription on the reverse of one of the outer folds: "License for / Doct.r Richard C. Moore / to practice as Physician / and Surgeon in the County / of Richmond / Filed 25th July 1806 / By Joseph Perine Clk." (Keywords: New York, Medical, Doctor) |
