Description |
This is an individual item contained within archival collection MS136. Handwritten certificate or license on off-white paper with three parallel creases. Inscription on the front: "Richmond County / New York / [illegible] / I, Peter Rezeau one of the Judges of the / Court of Common Pleas, for the aforesaid County / Do, certify, that Satisfactory Evidence has been pro[du] / -ced, to me that Isaac Stuart, of the aforesaid [County] / has practised Physic and Surgery for two years proceeding the first day of October, in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven Hundred & ninety / -seven, within the said State of New York / Given under my hand & seale this / First day of March One thousand Eight / Hundred 1800 / Peter Rezeau". A small piece of paper is adhered over what is presumably a wax seal. The paper was originally folded for storage, with a handwritten inscription on the reverse on one of the outer folds: "Doct.r [sic] Isaac Stuart / Certificate for / Practising [sic] Physic / & Surgery / Filed as the Act / Directs the 5th day / of March 1800 / Joseph Perine Clk."
