Description |
Small collection of items relating to or gathered by Claus Holtermann and family of Staten Island. Collection includes documents, a diary, a newspaper clipping, a card with printed poem, and a typed label adhered to a piece of wood. Included are two documents in German; one includes Claus Holtermann's name, dated August 12, 1872; the other is a marriage certificate for Claus Holtermann and Catharina Mohrmann (Catherine Moehrmann), dated 1880. The typed label adhered to a piece of wood appears to be an English translation or summary of this document. Also included is a notebook or diary; an accompanying note, probably by the donor, describes this as the diary of Claus Holtermann, 1870-1871, while stationed in France during the Franco-Prussian War. The newspaper clipping is an obituary for Emil Erne, 1939, a former employee of Holtermann's Bakery in Richmond, Staten Island. (Keywords: New York City) |
