Ownership and History |
David Embree Austen (1784-1863) was a maternal great-grandfather of photographer Alice Austen. He operated an auction house in Manhattan. This portrait, with a different frame, appears in several of Alice Austen's photographs of the parlor of Clear Comfort, the Austen family home in Rosebank, Staten Island. |
