Ownership and History |
This is one of six photos that Alice Austen staged in front of a tombstone in Watkins, New York. She carefully positioned herself and her friends Trude Eccleston and Augustine M. Hopper to make a play on the name "NOYES," covering part of the name so that it showed as "NO" or "YES." The photos suggest romantic love and spurned affections. |
