Description |
Original glass plate negative. Interior view of the dining room at Clear Comfort, the Austen family home in Rosebank, Staten Island. There are five Federal style shield back chairs around the dining table, and another chair in front of the window at left. Hanging in front of the window is a birdcage with a large bird. On the rear wall is an Empire style sideboard, with a large framed print of people and horses above it. Items displayed on the sideboard include a lamp, a caster set, carafes, figurines, a teapot, a silver basket, and a ceramic chicken in a basket. The dining table is set for a meal with plates, silverware, glasses, a platter, and serving bowls. The original negative sleeve has the photographer's handwritten inscription: "Seed 22 / No. 162 / Interior of dining room / Dull day, lit lamp, no light. / 2. P.M. Stop 4. 12 min / Dalh lense / Sunday Sept 11th 1887." (Keywords: New York) |
