Description |
Original glass plate negative. Interior view of Trude Eccleston's bedroom in the St. John's Episcopal Church rectory in Clifton, Staten Island. Furnishings include a writing desk, an upholstered chair, and a sofa (lounge); the foot of a bed is seen at far left. There are numerous prints and photographs displayed on the walls and on the mantelpiece. Among the photos on the mantelpiece are a portrait photo of Alice Austen and a portrait photo of Trude's brother John Bowers Eccleston. The original negative sleeve has the photographer's handwritten inscription: "371 / Seed 26 / Trudes room & mantle piece / Fine, clear day, good light / 8 mins / 12.30 PM / Stop 44 / Perken lense / Wednesday Oct 9th 1889." Reverend John C. Eccleston served as the rector of St. John's Episcopal Church for more than 40 years. This photograph shows a room in his family's residence in the rectory of the church. His daughter Trude was a close friend of photographer Alice Austen. |
