Red earthenware pie plate with lead glaze. Drape molded. Round with low curved sides and coggled rim. Inscribed in yellow slip with name: "Lucy". Probably made by George Wolfkiel (active ca. 1830-1867), New Barbadoes Township (now River Edge), Bergen County, New Jersey. Diameter is 10.250 inches.

|Ownership and History||
George Wolfkiel (1805-1867) was active in Bergen County, New Jersey, from approximately 1830 until his death in 1867. He manufactured earthenware and stoneware items, and is noted today for his slip decorated plates, some of which contain the distinctive "y" seen in this plate.
This plate descended in the Wood family of Travis, Staten Island. It came to the Staten Island Historical Society in 1948 from the estate of Mary (Wood) Leonard.
