Object Name Card, Greeting
Date 1888 inscription and copyright
Description Greeting card (occasion not known, possibly a valentine). Color-printed illustration of a young girl wearing a brown coat and hat, standing with her hand on a wall. Printed inscription below: "My Mama, who sent me here, / Bade me say: "I love you, dear!"" Fine print below image at left: "Copyright 1888 by L. Prang & Co., Boston. The reverse side has handwritten inscription in ink: "Alice with much love / from "Trudie" / 1888."

Ownership and History This card is part of a collection of personal items that came to the Staten Island Historical Society from photographer Alice Austen in 1945.

The "Trudie" in the signature is Alice's Austen's friend Trude Eccleston.
