Manee of Tottenville / in the STATE of New York were by me Joined together in / HOLY MATRIMONY / on the 1st day of January in the Year of our Lord / One Thousand Eight Hundred and seventy three / Witness Wm Ford / D. Walters Minister / of the Gospel." Printed at bottom: "Designed & Engraved by J.P. Cox. / 36 Beekman St. / PUBLISHED BY E. GOODENOUGH. / 322 Nassau St. New York. / Entered according to Act of Congress in the Year 1862 by E. Phoebe J. (Manee) and George W. Sprague resided in Tottenville, Staten Island. They had one daughter, Phoebe Elizabeth, born September 1875. Phoebe Elizabeth married Charles A. Marshall in 1902.
This certificate was donated to the Staten Island Historical Society in 1948, along with the wedding dresses of Phoebe J. (Manee) Sprague and Phoebe Elizabeth (Sprague) Marshall. The donor, Mrs. G.H. Videon (maiden name Lulu Marshall), was the daughter of Phoebe Elizabeth and Charles A. Marshall.
