Acquisition From Alice Austen
Ownership and History These shoes belonged to Alice Austen (1866-1952), who grew up in the house in Rosebank, Staten Island which is now the Alice Austen House museum. As a child, Alice lived with her mother, grandparents, and other extended family members, as well as a small number of servants. She later became an avid amateur photographer whose work is now internationally known.
