|Acquisition||Gift of the Henderson-Irving Family|
|Ownership and History||
The owner of this fan chose to use it as a personal memento. The handwritten signatures on the reverse show that it was used to record a woman's dance partners at a ball. Penciled names include Bleecker Leggett; E. Thomas; Lewin; Shand; Vermilye; and W. Donald.
The fan may have belonged to Maria Adelaide Henderson (1854-1925) of Staten Island, who mentioned dancing classes in letters to her future husband, Gugy Irving, in 1876.
