Title Port Richmond Tea Garden
Description Printed restaurant menu; front and back cover with 4 interior pages. The cover is brown paper with a printed illustration and inscription in red and black. The illustration is of a man and woman dancing. Inscription: "Port Richmond / Tea Garden / AMERICAN and CHINESE / RESTAURANT / 2040 RICHMOND TERRACE / PORT RICHMOND, STATEN ISLAND / TELEPHONE PORT RICHMOND 4018 / DANCING PERMITTED WITH PARTIES / AT SAME TABLE ONLY. / PRIVATE DINNER PARTIES ARRANGED / AT REASONABLE RATES. / A FEW DAYS NOTICE WILL BE REQUIRED." There are 4 menu pages titled "CHINESE STYLE" (including the inside of the front cover) and one titled "AMERICAN STYLE". Handwritten inscription in pencil on the inside front cover: "Formerly Port Richmond Hotel where Aaron / Burr died". Printed inscription in lower right corner of back cover: "W.F. VANDEN HOUTEN'S SONS / PRINTERS / 409 PEARL STREET, NEW YORK"
Ownership and History The menu notes that dancing at the Port Richmond Tea Room is permitted only with people who are seated together at the same table.
