Object Name Shoe
Date ca. 1926-1931
Description Pair of woman's shoes. Floral and paisley brocade with stylized people and elephants in red, green, and tan on an olive green background. Applied gold trim. T-strap style with center and side jeweled buckles. Rounded tapered toe. Curved 3" heel. Printed mark on inner sole: "SAKS - FIFTH AVENUE / Fenton / FOOTWEAR / FENTON 20." Price sticker on inner sole of right shoe: "Saks Fifth Avenue / 18.50." Handwritten inscription inside back of both shoes: "4B / S95152 SE1638 / Fenton 20." Stamped mark on sole of each: "HAND SEWN."

Ownership and History These shoes came to the Staten Island Historical Society from Mrs. J. Olyphant of Todt Hill, Staten Island, who reported that they had belonged to Miss Harriet Hammond (1876-1974).
