Object Name Bag
Date ca. 1900s-1910s
Description Brown paper bag with printed inscription: "LOUIS ECKETT / Tonsorial / Artist / PORT RICHMOND, S.I., N.Y. / HEADQUARTERS FOR / THE CELEBRATED / 1811 CIGARS / Royal Scarlet". The bag measures 7 inches high x 4 inches wide.
Ownership and History "Tonsorial artist" is a term for a skilled barber with a talent for shaving. Louis Eckett (1875-1959) worked as a barber for more than 30 years. This bag indicates that his shop also sold tobacco products. The shop was located at 12 Richmond Avenue in Port Richmond, Staten Island.
